Clinton Street is all about comfort and community. This small strip, basically from 20th to 26th Ave, is up and coming but not in that sickening develop-every-inch-of-everything sort of way. Small businesses are cropping up, complementing and diversifying the already existing allure of the more established, original gangsters. It is one of the best destinations to spend a day with friends, grab a bite or make an evening out of hopping the top-notch bars. Let's take a leisurely stroll and see what they have to offer.
Eat it
An innovative offering from David Machado, Vindalho (2038 SE Clinton St, 467-4550, vindalho.com), billed as "Spice route cuisine," brings authentic Indian concoctions to an upscale, modern setting. One of the ideas behind its inceptionlike Machado's other venture Lauro Kitchen on Divisionwas to enable Southeast patrons to dine in a sleek top-drawer restaurant without having to trek downtown. The menu is distinctly informed, most likely a result of having sent Chef de Cuisine David Anderson to India to further develop his craft; and it's out of this world. The fresh, flavor-bursting offerings are just the thing to impress a date or simply tickle your taste buds. Let's not forget the carefully constructed cocktails and menu-specific wine list that complements the intricate combination of tastes.
